President Tryon Wells called the meeting to order at 8:07 p.m.

The membership approved the Minutes of the previous meeting with much thanks to Peggy Thomson.

Communications
Mac Thornton of The Potomac Conservancy (TPC) and a waiting list member, sent a letter encouraging Sycamore Island to sign a scenic easement with TPC. Copies of the letter were circulated

The Islander
Editor John Thomson was pleased with last month's submissions. He asks that information for the Islander be given to him no later than 2 weeks before the meeting date. John is also looking for volunteers to do folding and stuffing in upcoming months.

Caretaker's Report
Doc Taliaferro reported that there is a new winch in place to raise and lower the ferry tow rope. He and John Matthews are repairing a leak in the clubhouse kitchen roof.

Canoe Chair's Report
David Winer said this would be the last time the unclaimed boats are presented in the Islander for their claimants. If they are not claimed, they will become Club property.

House Committee's Report
Susan Garbini is planning for the Spring Workfest and then, painting the clubhouse interior. Therefore, the Spring Workfest will be on Sat., April 4 with the painting on Sat., April 18.

Old Business
By-Laws and Standing Rules
The guiding thread in revising both documents is to bring them into line with current practice. There will be a meeting to look at a first draft at Tryon Wells' home on Wed., Feb. 18 at 8 p.m. Brad Coolidge will chair the ad-hoc committee overseeing the revisions.

New Business
Scenic Easement
Mark Schlefer, who worked on the scenic easement that the Club agreed to in the past, reported that The Potomac Conservancy wants to re-open discussions with the goal of getting easements in the gorge that would conform and be enforceable. He also said that the Club could make an on-record easement, which means recording it with the Club's land records, instead of granting it to TPC. In that case, a small group of club members would be the enforcement body. Mark will draft an enforcement provision for an on-record easement. A summary of TPC's position and the on-record easement should appear elsewhere in this Islander. There will be a discussion of both positions at the next meeting.
