He also reminded folks that the House Committee (Susan Garbini, with Doc's assistance) is trying to get a clear record of locker assignments. In addition, Tryon noted that the tether system for the canoes is still in progress.
Islander Report
Editor John Thomson reminds those who want to contribute to the Islander to have their pieces to him 2 weeks before the meeting date.
Relief Caretaker Report
Jane Winer is turning her duties over to Norman Metzger. She reported that It has been fun scheduling relief caretakers and that it's a good way to get to talk to many members of the Club. She thinks that this job should last no more than one year. The meeting noted its appreciation and thanked her for a job well done. Doc added a special thank you.
Canoe Supervisor's Report
David Winer asks members to please put your canoes in their assigned racks now that the new shed is up. If your canoe is on a rack other than the assigned, it may be removed and tied to a tree.
Caretaker's Report
Doc Taliaferro said that things were going well. He noted there is electrical work to be done on two outlets and that he is looking Into putting a light at the ferry landing.
Old Business
Bylaw Review
Holly Syrrakos has been reviewing the bylaws and standing rules in order to bring
them into line with current practice. She noted that the standing rules reflect another time in history but that the bylaws are fairly consistent with practice today. She will continue to work on this in order to prepare a package of rule and bylaw changes.
New Business
Proposed change to Standing Rule 14
The reports on the canoe shed and the lockers brought up the issue of whether to allow guest card holders and honorary members the privilege of having a canoe rack and locker. At the Sept. meeting, a vote will be taken on the following: Guest card
members may request and receive a canoe rack, at $24 per year, and a locker, at $12 per year, as long as requests of regular and senior members are fulfilled. Honorary members shall be allowed access to canoe racks and lockers on the same terms as guest card members, on a first come, first serve basis.
Next Meeting
The September meeting will be held on the 10th at 8 p.m. at the Island.
The meeting adjourned at 9:04 p.m.
[NOTE: When asked if there was Old Business to consider, the Secretary forgot to ask for an update from the C & O Canal Restoration Coalition. There should be a report at the September meeting.]
