Sycamore Island Meeting Minutes
August 14, 1996
The meeting was held at the home of Dave and Jane Winer because of high water at the Island. The following members were present: Bill Eichbaum, David Winer, Jane Winer, Phil Jones, Jinny Jones, Peter Jones, John Stapko, John Krasny, Jack Colwell and John Mathews. Bill Eichbaum called the meeting to order at 8:03pm.
Following the reports of the Treasurer and the Financial Secretary, Phil Jones reported that Eric Simpson, currently on the waiting list, had volunteered to take over the coordination of the Saturday Caretaker list. Considerable discussion followed about the appropriateness of a nonmember doing this job. The question was settled when Jane Winer volunteered to do the job. Bill emphasized the Club's great appreciation for her stepping forward.
David Winer reported on the canoe shed status. Baker & Eddy declines to bid on the job: no money, big risk. Various designs under consideration were discussed. An outfit from Wyoming (or was it Utah?) has shown some interest and submitted suggestions. They even gave an estimated price of $15,000 which is close to the comrmittee estimate. John Matthews suggested moving the canoe shed closer to the club house to better protect it from the current at high water.
Canal access for the delivery of building materials is still not available. The Park Service will be prodded. Bill Eichbaum set a target date of Thanksgiving for the completion of the shed.
John Krasny moved that a commercial boarding ladder be purchased for the swim float, passed, about $120.00. Al Brown's ladder building efforts were appreciated, but two rungs did not make it right.
The meeting adjourned at 9:15pm for homemade ice cream and cookies forced upon us by our hosts.
Jack Colwell, Acting Secretary
