Sycamore Island Meeting Minutes
February 9, 1994
The meeting was called to order at 7205 Orkney, Parkway by Tryon Wells at 8:07 p.m. Present were: Peter Fuchs, Trip Reid, David Holdridge, Phil Jones, John Thomson, Tryon Wells, Peter Jones, Peggy Thomson, David Winer
Communications
Jim Snow sent in a letter volunteering his experience with conservation easements such as the one proposed by the Potomac Conservancy. Betty Burchell sent a letter with her opinions on the proposed clubhouse improvements.
Reports
Financial Secretary Mabel Wallich faxed in her report. She reported that $16,822 was deposited by February 9th in dues and other payments.
Membership Secretary Kathleen Peters also faxed in her report. She recommended that 7 persons on the waiting list be voted to regular membership. They were voted in unanimously.
Old Business
Due to the terrible weather conditions and controversial nature of the clubhouse improvement issue, discussion was tabled to the next meeting.
Canoeing Supervisor David Winer recommended that $1,000.00 be put to improvement of the club-owned canoe fleet. After some discussion, this was approved.
It was recommended that the club make an effort to follow up Bill Eichbaum's discussion with the Park Service to repair the path down to the Island. According to Bill, the Park Service would be willing to supply the planning and engineering if we were able to provide the labor. Some good ideas were brought up on how to generate volunteer labor for the project. It was thought that to work on the project on National Trails Day would make a good focus point.
New Business:
As was introduced in last month's Islander, the Potomac Conservancy made a pitch for a scenic easement. It was decided that a committee be formed to research and advise on the Potomac Conservancy's initiative.
The meeting adjourned at 10:05 p.m.
-- Tryon Wells, Acting Recording Secretary
