Sycamore Island
Meeting Minutes

November 10, 1993

The meeting was called to order on Sycamore Island by Tryon Wells at 8:08 p.m. Present were: Bill Bays, Phil Jones, David Winer, Brad Coolidge, Tryon Wells, Johnna Robinson, Paul Englestad, Lyle Blanchard, John Matthews, Al Brown, Clarence Payne, Cynthia Payne, Charlie Dunham.

The minutes of the October meeting were approved as printed in the November edition of The Sycamore Islander.

Reports
Treasurer Johnna Robinson submitted actual and budgeted figures for 1993. These figures will be used for the annual meeting in December to vote on the budget for 1994.

Membership Secretary Kathleen Peters sent in a report that listed 4 new additions to the waiting list bringing the total to 117.

Captain John Matthews reported that it's been a peaceful month on the island except that the pump had lost its prime last week which necessitates a visit from the well-man.

Old Business
Concern was expressed regarding delinquent payment of dues. Since the members present did not have a definitive report on the current status of delinquent accounts no action was taken. Nevertheless, but it was generally agreed that with the waiting list over 100, members unwilling or unable to make their payments on time would face strict compliance with the requirements of the by-laws.

There was a brief discussion about replacing the old casement-type metal framed clubhouse windows with new picture windows that match the double doors leading onto the deck. While this was generally well received, costs were considered an obstacle, particularly with the envisioned renovations thought to be high.

The frustrating situation regarding the deterioration of the path from the parking lots down to the towpath was brought up again. Since the path is not the club's, little can be directly done without permission from the Park Service.

Captain John Matthews said that though he tried to get estimates during the last month for the renovation work, he still didn't have any hard numbers. He also made various construction recommendations (carpet in the library, inexpensive wall materials, etc.) which drew no opposition. When asked for a round figure estimate, he gave $29,000.00 to do all the work including replacing all the lockers in the locker room but cautioned that it was still too early to tell.

Brad Coolidge officially moved "that the club adopt a program to renovate the locker room, the club room, toilet facilities, and the kitchen and bathroom in the caretaker's quarters along the general lines of the sketches as printed in the November issue of The Sycamore Islander with decisions on the specific details regarding phasing and financing to be determined at future meetings." Following a brief discussion to clarify the wording, the motion was seconded and unanimously carried.

The meeting adjourned at 10:40pm.
