Sycamore Island
Meeting Minutes

September 8, 1993

President Tryon Wells began the meeting at 8:05 PM.

Present:
Tryon Wells, John Thomson, Mark Schlefer, Peter Jones, Ken Sale, David Holdridge, Phil Jones, Johnna Robinson, Leah Hertz, Peggy Thomson, Marion Schlefer, David Winer

Minutes of the last meeting were approved.

Ken Sale presented the Treasurer's Report. Ken described a number of minor difficulties in keeping up with various items of income and disbursements. Johnna Robinson, the new Treasurer, accepted these matters with aplomb as she took up the reins for the coming year.

No other Committee Reports were offered.

Tryon Wells introduced the subject of the dilapidated bathrooms and locker rooms. He passed out drawings of a rough plan to improve the club's physical facilities in these areas. There was a general consensus among the members present that a number of related improvements should be contemplated. The discussions included: lockers, heating, no-gender bathrooms, changing rooms, showers, hot water showers, an enclosed outside shower, heated library, screen porch condition, screen porch enlargement, and a new stove for the Big Room. This brainstorm session resulted in a commitment by Tryon to revise his plans and place them in the next issue of the Islander for wider exposure to the membership. Cost estimates were not available for these numerous enhancements.

John Thomson volunteered to arrange for production of Sycamore Island tee shirts, patches, and decals to be made available to members at cost.

David Winer asked that the club consider replacing our battered aluminum canoes with fiberglass, ABS, or similar construction canoes. These might be purchased reasonably from liveries that change their fleets each year. Several members agreed to inquire of canoe liveries and outfitters about the availability of up to a half dozen canoes this Fall.

There was no Old Business, and the meeting adjourned at 9:25 p.m.
