The meeting was called to order on Sycamore Island by President Jack Sanders at 8:00 p.m. Present were: Jack Sanders, Peter Jones, Holly Syrrakos, Tryon Wells, Pat Barnett, Betty Burchell, Ken Sale.

The minutes of the July meeting were approved as printed in the August edition of The Sycamore Islander.

Communications
Bob Fritts wrote to the club wanting to retrieve his African wooden dugout canoe which has adorned the clubhouse since 1979. No member expressed any desire to hinder the request. (But the time is short for those who want to know if it will float!)

Peter Cannell of the Smithsonian wrote to the club about a gentleman who gives a slide presentation on the history of the Potomac and wondered if the Sycamore Island membership would be interested at one of the monthly meetings. It was decided that we were interested and he is to be contacted and a time arranged.

The club also received a couple of thank-you notes from the family of Marilyn Robinson Ringell for the flowers sent last month for her funeral.

Reports
Treasurer Ken Sale submitted his report for the month of June which showed a balance of $32,718.84 in the club's cash management account at the end of the month. He felt the club's reserve fund should be fully replenished by year's end.

Membership Secretary Pat Barnett reported that "nothing happened!" this month. The waiting list currently still stands at 92. There were no additions and no subtractions.

Old Business
The deck was briefly discussed and the inaction on this was attributed to a variety of reasons, which mostly amounted to not getting around to it. It was decided to move more energetically.

It was noted the new bell arrangement seemed to be working pretty well. It was decided that the new bell should be replaced with another of its kind as soon as possible in order to give Jack Colwell his bell back which he graciously donated for the test.

New Business
Peter Jones displayed a piece of siding given to him by John Matthews which sparked some interest in changing the siding of the clubhouse. It was agreed that no one felt any great sentiment for the current siding or color. The current siding apparently "throws off' paint which accounts for the peeling and is the reason that the exterior has a chronic painted-a-long-time-ago effect. It was recommended that John get more specifics and present them at a later meeting.

Some concern was voiced about "amateur" and "incompetent" ferrying done by members or guests with no idea about what they're doing. It was decided to turn the matter over to the Safety Committee for recommendations.

The meeting adjourned at 9:15 p.m.
