The meeting was called to order on Sycamore Island by President Jack Sanders at 8:02 pm. Present were: Tryon Wells, Art Gutnick, Brad Coolidge, Ken Sale, Coy Lay, Chris Lyles, David Lyles, John Stapko, Peter Jones, Holly Syrrakos, John Matthews, John Thomson, Mark Schlefer, Betty Burchell, Jack Sanders, Marian Schlefer.

The minutes of the meeting of May 9 were approved as printed in the June edition of The Sycamore Islander.

Communications
David Lyles received a letter from the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission indicating that the Sycamore Island clubhouse has been found not to warrant historic designation and has been removed from the Locational Atlas.

Reports
Treasurer Ken Sale reported an operating balance of $32,130.18 in the Club's Cash Management Account as of the end of May, 1990. A revised report was submitted for the month of April.

Financial Secretary Marilyn Fuchs, report showed total deposits of $1,421.22 to the Club's account in the past month. With one exception, all current members now have made payment on 1990 dues. That member will make payment within the next few days.

Membership Secretary Pat Barnett's report recommended two new members for Regular membership. The new members elected to regular status are: Steven and Francis Goldman, Nina Holland.

Captain John Matthews reported that the new septic tank was now in operation. Backfilling of the holes will take place at the Third Saturday work session on June 16.

John also reported on the status of the work on the addition to the Caretaker's apartment. On the recommendation of architect John Weibenson, the posts for the addition will be changed to steel instead of 60-pound treated wood posts. The wood posts are not readily available. This change in plans will add approximately $1,600 to the cost of the project. John expects the materials to begin arriving on the Island within the next several weeks. The large box elder outside the Caretaker's apartment will have to be removed to make way for the addition.

Supervisor of Electricity Art Gutnick indicated that if a wire could be run to the new toolshed, he would install the necessary sockets and plugs.

President Jack Sanders indicated that the plans for the Third Saturday work session include covering the new septic tank and painting the screen porch.

New Business
A motion was adopted reaffirming the Club's opposition to development of the 10-acre wooded site on MacArthur Boulevard near the Sycamore Store. A letter will be prepared for President Jack Sander's signature to the Maryland-National Capital Park and Planning Commission stating the Club's position on this matter.

Betty Burchell reported on CAAN's (Citizens for the Abatement of Aircraft Noise) latest position urging the Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority to include a complete night curfew from 10 pm to 7 am in its Noise Plan for National Airport.

President Jack Sanders indicated that he would be hosting a meeting of the American Rivers Conservation Council on the Island on July 11 and 12.

The Finance Committee, joined by former Treasurer Mark Schlefer, will be meeting to make a recommendation to the membership at a future meeting on the financing of the addition to the Caretaker's apartment.
