Meeting Minutes


May 9, 1990


The meeting was called to order on Sycamore Island by President Jack Sanders at 8:08 pm. Present were: Tryon Wells, Greg Super, Brad Coolidge, Ken Sale, Pat Barnett, Charlie Trammell III, David Lyles, John Stapko, Peter Jones, Holly Syrrakos, Peter Friedman, John Thomson, John Weibenson, Betty Burchell, Jack Sanders.

The minutes of the meeting of April 11 were approved as printed in the April edition of The Sycamore Islander.

Reports
Treasurer Ken Sale reported an operating balance of $32,331.25 in the Club's Cash Management Account as of the end of April, 1990.

Financial Secretary Marilyn Fuchs' report showed total deposits of $2,110.28 to the Club's account in the past month. During the past month, phone calls were made to those members who have not paid their dues. It was determined that 2 members are still delinquent in paying their dues. A motion was adopted that any member who has not made some dues payment by June 1 will be considered to have resigned from the Club.

President Jack Sanders thanked Peter Jones for completing the hole for the new septic tank. Jack also noted that Deputy Captain John Stapko had spent a great deal of time and energy digging the hole.

Membership Secretary Pat Barnett reported two resignations. One transfer from regular to inactive status was approved by the membership. Three new members were elected to regular status: Edward and Carolyn Curcio, Robert and Madeleine Oakley, Lincoln Smith.

Jack Sanders complimented Grounds Committee Chairperson Betty Burchell and Peter Jones on the appearance of the Island.

House Committee Chairperson Charles Trammell III reported on plans to paint the screen porch.

New Business
Jack Sanders in his capacity as Chairman of the Special Committee on the Caretaker's Addition reported the unanimous recommendation of the Special Committee that the contract be awarded to Captain John Matthews, who submitted the lowest of four bids for the project.

Architect John Weibenson described the latest plans for the project, and the latest copy of the drawings was made available for members to review. The siding of the addition will be similar to the rest of the Clubhouse.

Jack Sanders indicated that the winning bid was $19,650, but that figure was subject to negotiation. Along with the addition to the Caretaker's apartment, it was noted that both the front stairs and the back stairs into the Clubhouse will require some repairs.

A motion was unanimously adopted to accept John Matthews, bid and for the Club to enter into negotiations to sign a contract for the work, with flexibility and discretion on the part of the President to exceed the $19,650 bid by up to ten percent if necessary.

Several members noted that the Potomac River Whitewater Race on Sunday, May 6 was a great success. Jack Sanders complimented Entertainment Committee Chairpersons Cathy and Bruce Gaber for their delicious home-baked refreshments.

Peter Friedman offered to design a T-shirt for the Club, and bring the design to a future meeting for the members, consideration.
