The meeting was called to order on Sycamore Island at 6:05 p.m. by President David Lyles.

Minutes:
The minutes of the 12 October meeting were accepted as printed in The Sycamore Islander (November, 1988).

REPORTS

Treasurer:
Mark Schlefer summarized his written report for October as expenditures, $381.66; deposits, $169.96; dividends, $881.12, and total liquid assets of $35,031.35. Additionally, the treasurer moved, and it was passed, to increase the budget by $1,200-i.e., raising the present limit of $3,000 to $4,200, to cover extra anticipated expenses for November and December with special reference to expenses for the Islander.

Financial Secretary:
Maximilan Goepp reported for October that dues, application fees, donations, and guest card fees totaled $132.50. Additionally, it was announced that to facilitate fee collection for large parties, envelopes would be made available on the island so that hosts may pay before leaving.

Captain:
In the absence of Captain John Mathews, Deputy Captain Jack Sanders reported that a volunteer was needed for the Saturday after Thanksgiving. After discussion, it was decided that a caretaker was not needed, and the ferry would be tied up that Saturday and also on the Saturdays before Christmas and New Year's Day.

Eligibility:
Marcia Clarks reported no resignations; that William and Joan Kugler were eligible to move from regular to senior; John and Ruth Stapko were eligible for temporary; and Warren Brown and Douglas and Deborah Richards were eligible for regular membership. The moves were so voted.

Nominating Committee:
Chairman Jack Sanders referred to his written report, as published in the November Islander, and reminded all that additional nominations could be made from the floor. The hard and good work of the committee was recognized by the President.

NEW BUSINESS

Caretaker Peter Jones reported that two canoes are missing from the Island. They belong to John Tillson and Arnold Kronstadt.

Peter and Marilyn Fuchs, currently chair of the House Committee, agreed to add the responsibility for Painting as well.

David Lyles advised that at the urging of our Treasurer and others, we have asked an insurance company for review of our coverage. The report is expected in the near future, and we must recognize that we may have to assume more risk: or pay higher premiums. He also reminded everyone that volunteer caretakers as well as Peter, should see that club "releases" are signed by anyone using club canoes, including club members and guests. He also advised that at the coming workfest only trees with orange markers are to be cut; and that once the water is turned off for the winter; the portapotti in women's dressing room (in winter: unisex) is available.

Mark Schlefer said it was most important that committee chairmen anticipate expenses next year and let him know as soon as possible for budget preparation.

Betty Burchell advised that the Palisades area in our club vicinity is being threatened by developers. Glen Echo Heights Civic Association has now contacted other civic associations, and an effort is being made by several to oppose development along the river. One of the approaches might be to make the threatened approximately 20-acre tract into a regional park. The club passed a resolution to give club support to these efforts, and as a first step to ask Bill Black to draft a letter for club consideration expressing such support.

Jack Sanders reported that volunteer caretakers are signing up at a good rate for Saturday duties and the overall support plans seem to be going well.
