HIKING/BIKING SITES

The Washington metropolitan area is close to the oldest mountains on earth, the Appalachian Mountains, which run from Maine to Georgia. An hour's ride can get you to the front range in our area, the famous Blue Ridge Mountains of Virginia. Shenandoah National Park sits astride the range and is a wonderland resource for hikers, bird watchers, bicycle enthusiasts and others to enjoy hundreds of miles of untouched nature.

Closer to home, the Washington area also boasts more hiking/biking trails than most large urban centers in the country. Check the links below for activities and organizations that take advantage of our region's abundance of outdoor resources.
